Tuesday, 1/28/2020 6pm @ Nature Center Long-time club member Jerry Brown will present "The Art of Fun Nature Photography." This one hour presentation is the same one the Effingham Art Guild has asked him to do for them demonstrating how to compose scenes, any/all kinds of scenes—birds, flowers, plants, animals, people—to make them visually more appealing, to make them works of art that make you feel good when you see them! |

BIRD CLUB Tuesday, September 24, 5pm *Please note the early, 5pm start time!* @ Douglas-Hart Nature Center ___________________________________ Mark your calendars and invite your friends and neighbors! Join us for an evening bird walk to look for those fall migrants that are here one day, gone the next! The walk is on relatively flat, even surfaces. This bird club meeting will start at 5pm so that we can catch extra daylight. This is a great opportunity to learn from the experienced birders, and to see species that many of us have a hard time finding on our own! ![]() AUGUST MEETING: Date: Tuesday, August 27 6pm Location: Douglas-Hart Nature Center Presenter: Samantha Pasko Topic: Chickadees Eastern Illinois University graduate student Samantha Pasko will share stories and findings from her local research conducted on chickadee nestlings! Check out what Samantha has to say about her presentation: "With animal behavior and ecology being my primary career focuses, I have chosen a masters thesis project focusing on native chickadee hybridization. I study two local species that overlap in territory, thus creating a contact zone. Within this zone, these two species breed with each other and create hybrid offspring. My project is studying behavior, morphological, and genetic characteristics of these two chickadee species. I am able to differentiate between hybrid birds and pure individuals. Research like this gives us the ability to better understand these species, as well as their populations as a whole." Samantha will be sharing pictures and stories from her research, and will be setting up a mist net at Douglas-Hart to show us how she captures and handles birds, hopefully with LIVE wild birds to demonstrate on! Bird Club meetings are for adult birders of all experience levels to share sightings, questions, and news.
We would love to have you join us! |
